Prof. Gupta has been honored with several of the sought-after awards and recognitions. Some of these are:

20.  His diversified interests like music, poetry and painting have helped him remain in touch with social and cultural fabric of the country. He has worked on issues of scientific temper and has been invited to speak in the seminars on Science Culture and Consciousness, proceedings of which have published his papers

21. An honour for Prof Gupta and India when International Society of Impact Engineering nominated him as one of the five Honorary members chosen from across the globe.

     
(b) Editorial Membership: It was indeed a rare honour for Prof. Gupta that  He is/was on the Editorial Boards of six international and six national journals,: (1)Int. J. Mechanical Sciences, (2) Int. J. Impact Engineering,(3)  Int. J. Crashworthiness,(4) Latin American Journal of Solids and Structures, (5) Thin Walled Structures, (6) Int. J. Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures, (7) J. of the Aeronautics Society of India, (8) Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy, (9) Sadhna, (10)  Everyman’s Science,  (11) J of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and (12) Defence Science Journal.

As an Editor, Prof Gupta encouraged the Indian Scientists to contribute papers. Participation of Indian scientists positively increased.

(c) Conferences held in His Honor

The biggest honour for a teacher is the love and affection of his students and colleagues, and peer recognition, which Prof. Gupta received in abundance. Conferences to honour him on his 60th, 65th, 70th, and 75th birthdays were held both in India and abroad. These conferences received very good response* from rest of the world.

       I.            His students and colleagues held a “Symposium on Large deformations” in 2002, at India International Centre, New Delhi, to honour his contributions to the subject and to the scientific community, on his 60th birthday. Two special issues of the Defense Science Journal were devoted to its proceedings. (Volume 53, No.1-2, 2003).

     II.            The international scientific community honoured him on his 65th birthday by holding an international conference in 2007 at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany.

A special issues of Defence Science Journal was devoted to his birthday. (Volume 58, No.2, 2008).

 III.            In honour of his 70th birthday, two conferences were held in 2012, one at the Indian National Science Academy in India and the second – a special session by the international community in NTU Singapore. A special issue of the “Proceedings Indian National Science Academy” was devoted to his birthday. (Proceedings of the Indian National Science Academy, volume 79, 4/December 2013

 IV.            As a great honour for his work, a special issue of the International Journal of Impact Engineering (Volume 110, 2017) is published by the ELSEVIER, which was released on his 75th birthday. Contributions were received from all over the globe. Preface by Prof. Norman Jones may be seen in picture.


Conferences were held in his honour on his birthdays in both India and abroad. Defence Science Journal, International Journal of Impact Engineering and the Proceedings of Indian National Science Academy dedicated their special issues in his honour.   Prof. Gupta is academician of rare abilities and is recognized internationally as the one who brought India on to the world research map of "IMPACT MECHANICS".
